THELLO JAY is an independent American recording artist, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur.

Born in Anniston, Alabama, and raised on Chicago's South Side, Thello was introduced to recording through his mother, Vonnie, a vocalist and background singer whose credits include gospel artist Darius Brooks of SDM Inc. His godfather, Danny Boy Steward, brought him along in limousines as a young kid and around the day-to-day of a touring artist's career, giving him an early, up-close look at the travel, performance, and business behind the music — years before he'd pursue it himself.

That exposure took root by high school. Through filmmaker Steve Zimmerman, Thello connected with BNF, Swagg Dinero, and the late Lil Jojo, and by sixteen had sold out a self-promoted show, sold music directly, and built an audience through grassroots promotion.

Beginning around 2009, an initial run of releases lasted about three years. During that period, a creative circle at Rich South High School led to released and unreleased collaborations with Azae Production, Dreezy, and Rello Dreamer. Chicago promoter Von "Chef Vino" Harris taught artist development and promotion, and the debut mixtape, His Era, was recorded at Classick Studios in Chicago with DJ O-Zone. The XXL Midwest Tour followed, along with coverage during hip-hop's blog era and an introduction to Roc Nation's Lenny S. through mutual friends.

A shift away from releasing music came next — though creating never stopped: recording, producing, and connecting artists with producers and collaborators, all while completing a marketing degree. That period laid the foundation for a broader approach to entrepreneurship, structure, and long-term catalog development.

In 2022, Thello returned to public releases with the Sleep on Myself EP. His current era connects music and publishing with the three businesses he founded, each with a distinct role and a shared emphasis on intentional, long-term development.
